Chișinău, 28 September 2026 – The Moldova International Stock Exchange (BIMx) aims to contribute to the development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova by increasing market capitalisation, stimulating liquidity and developing the secondary market. The strategic directions and the steps needed to consolidate a modern, transparent capital market connected to European markets were discussed at Capital Market Forum 2026, held as part of Moldova Business Week.

This year's edition of the forum brought together representatives of the authorities, the financial sector and the business community, investors, BIMx shareholders and development partners. The discussions covered the development of the capital market, the diversification of funding sources, liquidity and the secondary market, preparing companies to access the market, and attracting investors.

BIMx shareholders maib, Moldcell, GRAWE Carat Asigurări, Moldindconbank and OTP Bank presented the private sector's perspectives on the development of the market, while the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) shared Romania's experience in building a modern capital market. Opening the event, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, Claudiu Năsui, stressed the need to diversify funding sources for companies in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the role of the capital market in attracting investment for an economy connected to the European Union market.

“The state must set an example for companies in the Republic of Moldova. State-owned companies must be prepared to access the capital market and, where appropriate, to list on the stock exchange. A listing can open access to capital for development and bring more transparency and financial discipline. At the same time, we need long-term local investors, and pension funds can play an important role in channelling savings into investments that generate returns and support the development of the economy”, stressed the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, Claudiu Năsui.

At present, the stock market capitalisation of the Republic of Moldova ranges between 3% and 7% of GDP a year, compared with 10–30% in Eastern Europe and 60–80% in the European Union. Market capitalisation across the EU totals approximately EUR 14.8 trillion, which gives a sense of the development potential of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova. BIMx aims for the market capitalisation of the Republic of Moldova to reach 18% of GDP by 2030.

In 2026, BIMx intends to increase its share capital from EUR 1.5 million to EUR 3 million. Institutional investors and strategic partners are therefore invited to take part in the BIMx capital increase.

“BIMx is building the infrastructure needed so that more companies can access capital and investors can access new opportunities. Our objective is to develop a transparent, efficient market connected to the capital markets of the European Union. This vision is not limited to trust and predictability; it also means embracing European values such as sustainability, inclusion and gender equality. We want BIMx to contribute to a competitive financial environment in which participation is accessible to all”, said BIMx CEO Veronica Arpintin.

The development of BIMx and wider access to the capital market also require a stronger regulatory framework and greater participant confidence. The Chairman of the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF), Dumitru Budianschi, noted that developing the capital market in the Republic of Moldova is, above all, an exercise in cooperation and partnership between the authorities, the private sector and the institutions that support this process.

“The Capital Market Development Strategy for 2026–2030 provides the framework for bringing together the efforts of the authorities, the private sector and development partners around a common objective. The creation of BIMx is a first concrete example of the results we can achieve when there is a shared vision and coordinated effort. In the next stage, it is important to build a functional ecosystem around this infrastructure – from intermediaries and advisers to companies able to use the capital market to finance their development. The CNPF will continue to strengthen these partnerships and, within the limits of its powers, to create the conditions needed for a modern capital market connected to the European space”, said the Chairman of the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF), Dumitru Budianschi.

Achieving BIMx's objectives also depends on companies' ability to make use of the new funding opportunities. From the perspective of the European Business Association (EBA), which is also one of the main organisers of Capital Market Forum, companies in the Republic of Moldova need to become familiar with capital market instruments and need an effective dialogue with the authorities and financial institutions.

“EBA supports the development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova through the contribution of companies that are part of its community and have become founders of BIMx. EBA is also preparing a series of practical thematic seminars for the private sector, specifically for companies with a strong interest in listing”, said EBA Executive Director Mariana Rufa.

As the capital market develops, equitable access to finance, investment and leadership becomes an important part of this process. One strand of the forum therefore addressed the opportunities that a growing capital market can create for women's involvement, both in accessing finance and investment and in strengthening their representation in leadership positions.

“The development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova creates new financing and investment opportunities, to which women must have equal access. It is also important to strengthen women's participation and representation in economic and investment decision-making”, stressed Dominika Stojanoska, UN Women Country Representative in Moldova.

Capital Market Forum 2026 was organised by the Moldova International Stock Exchange (BIMx), the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF), the European Business Association (EBA) and the Moldova Investment Agency, in partnership with maib, UN Women and UNDP, through the project “Advancing climate resilience and women's empowerment in Moldova”, funded by the Embassy of Canada to Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.
